To a mixture of 6-methoxycarbonyl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydrochloride (22.8 mg, 0.1 mmol), DCM (1 mL) and 1.0 M aqueous solution of potassium carbonate (1 mL, 1 mmol) was added (trifluoromethyl)phenyl isocyanate (47 mg, 0.25 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Upon quenching with the addition of 0.5 mL of 1 : 1 MeOH:water, the mixture was stirred for an addition 30 minutes then evaporated to dryness. The residue obtained was partitioned between DCE (3 x 5 mL) and half saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate. The organic layers were washed with brine and concentrated to afford a white solid.
