The combined CH2Cl2 layers were washed with 1 N HCl (4¡Á100 mL), saturated NaCl (100 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated in vacuo to give the product (15.92 g, 89%); 1H NMR 500 MHz (CDCl3) delta=3.07 (2H, m), 3.91 and 3.94 (2H, t, J=6.2 Hz), 4.85 and 4.88 (2H, s), 7.36 (1H, dd, J=8.7 and 11.9 Hz), 8.07 (1H, dd, J=2.3 and 8.5 Hz), 8.01-8.08 (2H m).
