A novel and efficient C-C bond-formation method was developed: the cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) reaction catalyzed by copper bromide in the presence of an oxidizing reagent, tBuOOH. The CDC reaction provides a simple and efficient catalytic method to construct beta-amino diesters and beta-dicyano amines by a combination of two different sp3 C-H bonds followed by C-C bond formation. Solvent-free asymmetric cross-dehydrogenative-coupling (CDC) reaction between the sp3 C-H bond of prochiral CH2 and terminal alkynes was first studied under High-Speed Ball-Milling conditions. A series of optical active 1-alkynyl tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives were achieved by using recoverable copper balls together with PyBox chiral ligand in the presence of 2,3-dichloro-5,6- dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ). All coupling products were obtained in good yields at short reaction time with enantiomeric excesses up to 79%.

Visible-light active, heterogeneous, and organic photocatalysts exhibit a more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to classical metal-based catalysts. Two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D-COFs) with permanent porosity, columnar pi-arrays and excellent stability, that can become an excellent platform for heterogeneous photocatalysis of organic transformations. Here we report a predesigned imine-based COF with electron donor and acceptor structure. And new framework possesses large surface area, high crystallinity, outstanding stability and broad absorption range in the visible-light region as well as good photoelectric response characteristics. Importantly, it was found to be a highly effective heterogeneous photocatalyst for reductive dehalogenation of phenacyl bromide derivatives and alpha-alkylation of aldehydes under irradiation of visible-light. In addition, the COF gave good recyclability and could be reused after a simple separation manipulation. The current present still reveals a great prospect for 2D-COFs as metal-free, heterogeneous photocatalysts for organic transformations.

Reported herein is a novel visible-light photoredox system with Pd(PPh3)4 as the sole catalyst for the realization of the first direct cross-coupling of C(sp3)?H bonds in N-aryl tetrahydroisoquinolines with unactivated alkyl bromides. Moreover, intra- and intermolecular alkylations of heteroarenes were also developed under mild reaction conditions. A variety of tertiary, secondary, and primary alkyl bromides undergo reaction to generate C(sp3)?C(sp3) and C(sp2)?C(sp3) bonds in moderate to excellent yields. These redox-neutral reactions feature broad substrate scope (>60 examples), good functional-group tolerance, and facile generation of quaternary centers. Mechanistic studies indicate that the simple palladium complex acts as the visible-light photocatalyst and radicals are involved in the process.

Phenylbiphenyl-2,2?-ylenebismuth diacetate reacted with nucleophiles under basic conditions to give modest to good yields of the C-phenylated substrates. Under copper catalysis, it reacted with hydroxy or amino groups to give the products of O- or N-phenylation. In both sets of reaction conditions, this reagent showed a reduced reactivity compared to the analogous triphenylbismuth diacetate reagent. It showed also a high regioselectivity as only the phenyl derivatives were detected and isolated. The Royal Society of Chemistry 2000.

A new method for the one-step C?H amination of xanthene and thioxanthene with sulfonamides is reported, without the need for any metal catalyst. A benzoquinone was employed as a hydride (or two-electron and one-proton) acceptor. Moreover, a previously unknown and uncatalyzed reaction between iminoiodanes and xanthene, thioxanthene and dihydroacridines (9,10-dihydro-9-heteroanthracenes or dihydroheteroanthracenes) is disclosed. The reactions proceed through hydride transfer from the heteroarene substrate to the iminoiodane or benzoquinone, followed by conjugate addition of the sulfonamide to the oxidized heteroaromatic compounds. These findings may have important mechanistic implications for metal-catalyzed C?H amination processes involving nitrene transfer from iminoiodanes to dihydroheteroanthracenes. Due to the weak C?H bond, xanthene is an often-employed substrate in mechanistic studies of C?H amination reactions, which are generally proposed to proceed via metal-catalyzed nitrene insertion, especially for reactions involving nitrene or imido complexes that are less reactive (i.e., less strongly oxidizing). However, these substrates clearly undergo non-catalyzed (proton-coupled) redox coupling with amines, thus providing alternative pathways to the widely assumed metal-catalyzed pathways.

The chemically exfoliated 2D-MoS2 has a mixture of 1T (metallic) and 2H (semiconducting) phases. It has shown a considerably good catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), proceeding via electrochemical as well as photochemical pathways. Experimentalists have utilized triethanolamine or other sacrificial donors along with Eosin Y as a photosensitizer. But the potential of this reaction has not yet been fully explored as the sacrificial donor is wasted in the oxidation process. The oxidation cycle of this process can be used in many organic transformation(s). Herein, we report the use of the oxidative cycle for efficient cross dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) reaction with tetrahydroisoquinoline and indole substrates as well as their derivatives, parallel to HER. The reaction results in good to excellent yield of the corresponding product under visible light irradiation at room temperature. The mechanistic investigation has also been carried out. This study is a potential example of how to fully harness the oxidation and reduction cycles of many semiconductor based photocatalysts.
